The oldest University in Stuttgart: the University of Hohenheim is unique in its strong specialization.

Founded in 1818 after devastating famines, the University of Hohenheim is not only engaged in intensive basic research but has traditionally also been committed to developing innovative solutions for some of society’s pressing problems. To do so, the University of Hohenheim engages in a combination of scientific disciplines that is unique among German universities.

The Landessaatzuchtanstalt (LSA, State Plant Breeding Institute), founded in 1905 on the initiative of C. Fruwirth, is a university institution for research and development (R&D) in the field of plant breeding. The LSA’s tasks are based on the societal need for resource-conserving, environmentally friendly and market-oriented agricultural plant production.

The focus of our work is the improvement of soya varieties.
We use modern plant breeding methods such as speed breeding and high-throughput phenotyping.
