Our six multi-actor innovation communities (ICs) are the multi-actor force that boosts pre-breeding and breeding.
The framework that brings together the genetic resources and other facilities is designed to overcome a long-standing challenge in how to link the ever-growing and specialised technology and science-discipline orientation of the public academic research base into support for practical breeding activity, which is species-specific.
Furthermore, there is the challenge of reconciling the reward system in academic (based on academic publication) with the practical needs of innovators who take risks in commercial settings.
This focuses the consortium on tangible breeding progress in the target species that gives us a sense of purpose beyond mere networking.
